Old Main

Old Main was built in September 1876 at an original cost of $100,000. It was built of brick made from local clay that was fired on site. It was destroyed by fire in 1912. After it burned, the remaining walls were pulled down by students with ropes following artillery barrages, rifle fire, and dynamite charges. The Academic Building building now stands on the site previously occupied by Old Main.
