Adjusted & Flexible Work Arrangements

Quick Reference for Libraries & Press Staff

Full policy: employees.tamu.edu/employee-relations/fWA.html

This is a summary of the Libraries policy and is designed to help you know what’s required. It doesn’t replace the full policy; when in doubt, ask your supervisor or the Associate University Librarian (AUL).

Ground Rules for All Options

  • Must fit your job duties; some roles simply can’t flex, and that’s OK.

  • You must be in good standing (not under discipline, and your last review was at least “Meets Expectations”). Rare exceptions for the two one-off options require AUL + University Librarian approval.

  • Typically not allowed until probationary status ends.

  • None of these replace using Leave; they’re for short, specific needs, not ongoing absences.

  • Your supervisor can pause or end an arrangement anytime business needs require it.

While Working Flex or Remote, You’re Expected To…

  • Reply within ~20 minutes to a direct message if you should be at your workstation (calendar open, no meeting, not at lunch).

  • Start on an assigned task within ~45 minutes of being asked.

  • Keep your calendar current and shared. Block time and note why if you’re unreachable during your schedule.

  • Be as available as if you were in the office, and come in when a business need requires it.
